Chris, from Plymouth, leads the professional catering team at Cornwall College Saltash. He began his career serving with the British Army for 24 years, in a variety of roles across the globe including chef and chef instructor.

After leaving the Army, Chris began teaching in September 2012 and his tireless work with his students along with his dedication to their progress saw Chris win the Cornwall College ‘Pride in What We Do’ award after only his first year in the job.

Chris ensures that learning isn’t restricted to the kitchen and classroom – he takes an active part in Flavour Fest every year, showcasing his skills and putting on demonstrations with some of his students. During the year Chris takes the students on many visits and trips, including working in a soup kitchen at night to help the city’s homeless, and has invited old Army colleagues into the kitchen to talk about military diets and Army food rations.

Chris says “I try to make the learning experience as varied and relevant to the workplace as possible. I really enjoy being part of the students development, watching them perfect their skills and grow in confidence as chefs as well as individuals.”
