How do you start your day – a bite of toast as you run out of the door or a bowl of porridge as you peruse the morning’s news?

When you’re juggling children, walking the dog and have-I-got-everything-for-my-important-meeting on a busy morning, it’s easy to let breakfast fall down the list of priorities. Taking just a few minutes to eat something can really make a difference to your day. Breakfast provides the body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast – without breakfast you are effectively running on empty, like trying to start the car with no petrol!

Research shows those who eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight – if you skip breakfast, you’re more likely to reach for high sugar and fatty snacks mid-morning. Studies have also shown how eating breakfast can improve memory and concentration levels, improve mood and lower stress levels. In studies amongst children, breakfast can improve attainment and behaviour, and has been linked to improved grades.
